TECH REVIEW: realme 5i - Value For Your Money

realme 5i review jexxhinggo.com
I have been testing a few smartphones lately and the newest on my list is the realme 5i. This is a budget-friendly option among the realme 5 smartphone series. We have tested the realme 5 Pro a few months back and we were really impressed by its features. Now realme released a much more affordable option for their customers and fans.

Let me share to you my review below but first, here's what's inside the box.

DESIGN
This phone is almost identical with the realme 5 except it has a rough plastic back with a "Sunrise" design and a few details beside the camera and LED flash. It has 4 cameras at the back with a gold ring designed around its main lens. There's also a fingerprint scanner at the back. The rough design looks like the lines on your fingertips. Honestly, I did not like the back finish at first but I got used to it and realized its really good in my hands. Also, you won't notice the smudges and fingerprints that's why it's a two thumbs up for me.

The front has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection. There's a mini waterdrop notch that houses the selfie camera. On the right, it has the power button while on the left you'll see the volume rocker and the SIM slot. It can house 2 nano sims and 1 microSD at the same time. There's a loudspeaker, micro USB port, microphone, and a 3.5mm audio jack at the bottom.

It comes in two color variants - Aqua Blue and Forest Green.

DISPLAY
You can still enjoy watching videos on the realme 5i. It has a 6.5-inch screen with a resolution of 1600 x 720. For me, the screen is not so bright even if you adjust the screen brightness to max. The audio quality was just okay. It was pretty loud when I watched YouTube videos but you'll tend to cover it when you play mobile games.

OS AND UI
The realme 5i runs on Android 9 with ColorOS 6 and is planned to be upgraded to Android 10 soon. It's equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 and has a 3GB RAM and 64GB Internal Storage.

BATTERY AND PERFORMANCE
Its 5,000mAh battery is one of its main features. This is best for mobile gaming and watching your new favorite series on Netflix. I tried playing Mobile Legends without crashing and screen lapses. It took me more than 2 hours to fully charge it but I was able to use it for a day and a half.

CAMERA
The realme 5i has 4 rear cameras - 12MP Main, 8MP ultrawide, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth camera. I'm impressed because it can take sharp and vibrant photos. Low-light and night shots are grainy. You can use the Nightscape Mode but you'll have to be still and it takes 6-7 seconds to complete. The 8MP selfie camera takes natural-looking photos.

PRICE
The realme 5i is available for only P6,990. A thousand bucks less than the realme 5.

FINAL THOUGHTS
With its price and features, the realme 5i is a value for your money. It has 4 cameras that takes impressive photos and has 5,000mAh battery. If you are a type of consumer who loves mobile photography and gaming but still on a tight budget, I recommend getting the realme 5i. But if you're also into good selfies and has an extra thousand pesos, get the realme 5 instead.
