TECH REVIEW: realme 5 PRO - Pro in Camera and Mobile Gaming

I've been a fan of realme since they launched in 2018. I actually bought their first launched smartphone, the realme C1. I enjoyed using it and eventually gave it to my brother as a gift. The realme brand is known for its impressive design, battery, and camera qualities. I'm lucky to get a hands-on on the new realme 5 PRO. This phone is 5 times better than my realme C1 yet surprisingly affordable compared to other Android phones in the market.

Now, let's have a rundown of what the new realme 5 PRO can do

DESIGN

It has a holographic color with 3D body design. It adopts the diamond cutting design that's impressive and has a curved back that makes a good grip. It's available in 2 colors - Crystal Green and Crystal Blue.

The 4 camera set-up is placed at the back and a fingerprint scanner in the middle.

On the right, you will see the power/lock button and on the left, the volume rocker and SIM tray that can house 2 nano-SIM cards and 1 micro-SD at the same time. Below you'll see the loudspeaker, USB Type-C port, main microphone, and audio port.

DISPLAY

This phone has a 6.3inch FHD screen with a dewdrop design that houses the front camera and sensors. It's good for watching your favorite videos online and of course, gaming with a resolution of 2340 x 1080. Giving you that immersive feel while playing Mobile Legends or PUBG.

PERFORMANCE

It's equipped with an upgraded Snapdragon 712 AIE processor and Qualcomm Adreno 616 GPU for superior image quality and fast performance. It is also equipped with the latest ColorOS 6.5 operating system and has a customized design and stock Android experience.

= MEMORY

It is available in 2 variants - 4GB RAM + 128GB ROM and 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM

= GAMING

It now supports Frame Boost and Touch Boost. This enhances performance and stability of the phone during mobile games. I've been playing Mobile Legends and PUBG in the highest settings and did not experience any lags or ghost touch.

= BATTERY

This smartphone is equipped with 4,035 mAh battery and lasted for 2 days when I only used social media apps. Let's not forget their AI Freezer function, which intelligently predicts the user's app usage and freezes unused apps to save power. It has a VOOC 3.0 Flash Charge feature. It took me an hour and a half to fully charge it.

CAMERA

I'm impressed with its quad-camera features. It has a 48MP main camera (Sony IMX 586), 8MP  Ultra-wide-angle lens, 2MP Depth sensor, and a 2MP Macro lens.

With its 48MP lens feature, you'll get crisp and detailed shots even at night. Night mode is part of the AI feature and it will detect if it's in low light. But you can also use Nightscapes feature, which is my favorite. This is an enhanced Night Mode and can take beautiful clear shots in low-light or night scene.

I was blown away with my shots while we were watching the fireworks display during the Christmas Eve countdown at a nearby resort.

Portrait shots are impressive too! There are few cuts in the subject when it's in low-light but the shots are still clear and detailed.

Its 16MP Front Camera has Nightscapes feature too! It supports Quad Bayer smart pixel 4-in-1 technology for a great selfie performance in low-light. Selfie beauty function is available too for selfie lovers out there. You will not be disappointed.

Ultra-Wide shots are good but it tends to have pixelated sides if taken in low-light or indoor.

ULTRA-WIDE SAMPLE SHOTS

It supports recording of up to 4K-resolution videos and has image stabilization function. It's not as stable than other Android phones but better than its predecessors.

PRICE

For the 4GB RAM variant, it is priced at Php11,990. While the 8GB RAM variant is priced at Php13,990. Available in all realme stores and mobile shops nationwide.

FINAL THOUGHTS

With its price and performance, the realme 5 PRO is definitely a value for your money. I can use this as my main daily driver. It has impressive cameras, reliable battery, and elegant design.
