Project Hail Mary - Movie Review You Didn’t Ask For

Project Hail Mary - Movie Review
I first caught the trailer online and it looked so interesting that I didn't even second-guess going to the cinema to see it. Plus, let’s be real—it’s a Ryan Gosling movie, so I was already sold!

What I Loved

I’ve always been into "space and alien" movies, and this one really hit the spot. I loved how the scenes flowed; it starts you off in the middle of the current situation but uses flashbacks to fill in the gaps. Usually, that kind of storytelling makes me scratch my head, but the arrangement here was so cohesive that I never felt like I was missing the plot.

Then there’s Rocky. The take on this alien character is so cool. The movie plays with your emotions—going from that "stuck alone in space" phobia to the "wait, is that an alien?" phobia. It hits you with a lot of different feelings, but it never misses a chance for a light, funny moment.

Where It Got A Bit Tough

If I’m being honest, the conflict was a little challenging to follow if you get too caught up in the technical side of things. It’s an interesting concept, but there were parts where I honestly missed how they found the solution or why they even came up with it in the first place. It just got a bit "science-heavy" for me.

The other thing was the length. It’s a long one—about 2 hours and 27 minutes. There were so many moments where I thought, "Okay, they finally solved the problem!" but then... nope. There’s another thing. And then another. And then one more surprise. By the end, I kind of gave up on trying to guess what was coming next!

The Verdict

But overall? It was totally worth it. Between the great story, the amazing effects, and the comedy, it’s just a really heartwarming tale. Seeing a regular teacher turn into an astronaut and basically become the savior of the world was a great ride.

Aside from Ryan and Rocky, I felt like all the other characters were super relatable, too. You really get to know them well, even with their short time on screen.
