TECH REVIEW: realme 6 - A New Level of Gaming Experience

We're back to reviewing smartphones after 2 months of lockdown in the city. A perfect device for a tech review comeback is the new realme 6! This is the second device of the realme 6 smartphone series and the successor of the realme 5 Pro.

Would this mean it has a better camera and gaming performance? Let's all find out!

Among the 3 realme 6 smartphones, this would be my second favorite. First would be the realme 6 Pro with its lightning design and last would be the realme 6i with its iridescent lines. The realme 6 has a "comet-inspired" design that represents the impression of speed. It's available in two color variants - Comet White and Comet Blue.

Even though the back cover is made of polycarbonate plastic, it still looks premium. While the frame is a mix of aluminum and plastic. You won't see any fingerprints but it is prone to smudges so you may use the free jelly case. The back is curved so it has a good grip and won't slide off easily from your hands.

At the back, you'll see a quad-camera and a flash and unlike its predecessors, there's no fingerprint scanner because it is now located on the right side and it also serves as the power and lock button. It might take some time for you to get a hang of it but you can also use the face unlock feature.

On the left, we have the volume rocker and sim slot that can house 2 nano sims and 1 microSD card at the same time. It supports memory expansion of up to 256GB to store more photos, files, and games. There's nothing on top but there's a 3.55mm audio port, microphone, USB Type C port, and speakers at the bottom.

It has a 6.5-inch IPS LCD with a 90Hz refresh rate. This is the first smartphone along with the realme 6 Pro that has this kind of refresh rate in this price range. The default screen refresh rate is 60Hz but you can change it in the Settings to get that smoother experience. I had no problems in playing heavy games like Mobile Legends and Asphalt 9.

However, the brightness of the screen was a bit of a struggle under broad daylight. I went out of the house to take pictures but I can't see it clearly. It was too dim but it's already on max brightness.

There's no notch but there's a single camera punch-hole. It is conveniently located at the top left corner of the screen. It doesn't really bother me at all because the Samsung 10 line up was like this as well. The screen is protected with Corning Gorilla 3.

Expect a seamless and smooth experience with the realme 6. It is powered by a MediaTek Helio G90T processor. This is perfect for all Filipino gamers because of its big screen plus a 90Hx Ultra Smooth Display.

The realme 6 has a 4,300 mAh battery that can be charged quickly with its 30W Flash Charge technology. It only took 55 minutes for it to be fully charged. Even while gaming heavily, users can expect a 55% charge in just 60 minutes.

The realme 6 boasts the latest flagship quad-camera set-up. It has a 64MP primary lens, an 8MP 119 degrees ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. It has Super Nightscape 2.0 too so you can take bright and clear night shots. The front-facing camera has 16MP and can support smart beauty mode, HDR mode, and bokeh effect. It also supports 120fps slow-motion selfies!

You can shoot videos of up to 4K resolution and it has an Ultra Image Stabilization Max (UIS Max) for smoother videos. It adopts the ultra-wide camera so you can take wide-angle shots. Will have a separate video on my YouTube channel for this here.

The realme 6 is available in two storage configurations: 4GB + 128GB for P11,990 and 8GB + 128GB for P13,990. Catch the nationwide sale on Lazada on May 30 and 31, and June 6 and 7, to get freebies like the limited-edition squad bag worth P1,499. Also available via Home Credit with 0% interest for 6 months.

From its 90Hz display and camera performance, this is indeed better than the realme 5 Pro. If you are looking for a phone with better gaming performance and a good camera, the realme 6 is something you should consider.
