When I first saw the trailer for Hoppers a few months ago, I thought, Okay, this looks fun—but also kind of familiar. The vibe didn’t instantly feel like the usual Disney Pixar magic, and honestly, the animation reminded me more of an indie animated film than a big Pixar release.

HOPPERS Movie Review

Then the movie finally hit cinemas… and suddenly everyone was raving about it. Reviews were calling it Pixar’s strongest animated movie in a long time. That alone got me hyped. So I went in expecting to laugh a lot, have fun, and maybe be a little emotional—because, well, it is Pixar.

A Very Pixar Way to Start

As expected, the movie opens with an emotional intro featuring the main character and her grandmother. It’s familiar territory for Pixar, but it works. The scene gives us heart, context, and a reason to care about the main character right from the start. It sets the emotional foundation before the story slowly expands into something bigger.

Pretty soon, it’s clear what the main conflict is all about: humans vs animals. The protagonist is very much on the animals’ side, and that belief connects strongly to her past and her bond with her grandmother. It feels natural, not forced, which I really appreciated.

Simple Story, Good Flow

One thing Hoppers does really well is pacing. The story is straight to the point and flows nicely. There’s no unnecessary overcomplication, and the movie keeps moving at a steady pace.

You meet a lot of characters along the way—especially the animals—and that’s where a lot of the fun comes from. Roughly up until the last third of the movie, I was constantly amused and surprised by the personalities they introduced. The animal characters are weird, fun, and full of charm, which honestly made them the highlight for me.

About the Animation…

Let’s talk visuals. The animation is good—but not mind-blowing. To me, it felt more like Pixar’s animation from five to seven years ago. I’m not sure if they intentionally kept it more reserved, but compared to something like The Good Dinosaur, which had absolutely stunning visuals, Hoppers doesn’t really reach that level.

That said, this is definitely one of those movies where the story matters more than the animation, and thankfully, the story delivers.

Laughs, Laughs, and More Laughs

I lost count of how many times I laughed during this movie. The humor just works—whether it’s character-based, visual comedy, or unexpected moments that catch you off guard.

And yes… the shark scene.
That was hands down my favorite part of the movie. I won’t say anything more because it’s something you really need to experience yourself—but trust me, you’ll know it when you see it.

The Message Behind the Madness

Beneath all the humor and fun, Hoppers has a clear message: we need to take better care of the environment and learn how to coexist with animals. The movie doesn’t hate technology or modern cities—it just reminds us that progress shouldn’t mean forgetting about nature.

Urban life is great, technology is helpful—but nature deserves love too.

Final Thoughts

So… is Hoppers worth watching? Absolutely

Did it meet my expectations? Yes, it did

It’s fun, heartfelt, and full of memorable moments. It’s the kind of movie I’d happily watch again with friends or family. While the animation might not be Pixar’s most impressive, the storytelling, humor, and message more than make up for it.

Here’s hoping Disney Pixar keeps bringing us stories like this—and maybe pushes the animation even further next time.

If you’re thinking about watching Hoppers, I’d say go for it!

FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS MOVIE REVIEWIt’s refreshing to finally watch a vibrant, lively superhero film again. The color grading alone already made me feel nostalgic—even though I’m a '90s baby! Hehe.

Now, let’s talk about the cast. To be honest, I’m still very much Team John Krasinski and Chris Evans—they are Reed Richards and Johnny Storm for me. So I wasn't 100% sold on the new lineup at first. But Pedro Pascal? Of course he’s not bad with anything. Haha! Eventually, I liked him as Reed. And after watching Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm? I’m totally sold. She nailed it. She deserves “Mother of the Year” just for this movie.

Galactus was so good. Hoping he had more screen time and a stronger backstory, he could’ve been even more terrifying than Thanos, especially for viewers who aren’t familiar with the comics.

As for Silver Surfer (or Shalla-Bal in this version)—I had mixed feelings. Julia Garner is a great actress, but her portrayal didn’t quite match the image I had in mind. I expected a tall, commanding, voluptuous presence. She was scary, yes—but not as visually intimidating as I imagined.

The visual effects were mostly solid, except that one part—in a bad way. When The Thing carried the baby, the CGI felt a little off and jumpy. Maybe it’s because I didn’t watch it in IMAX? It was definitely noticeable.

Story-wise, I loved the reintroduction. The pacing and conflict were well-placed. I'm just curious why they added The Thing’s love interest subplot. Anyone else noticed that? Let me know if there’s a reason behind it.

Overall, it’s a great comeback for the Fantastic Four. Way better than I expected—especially after Thunderbolts. I'm now super curious to see how they’ll explore Franklin Richards and his insane power level in the future.

If you’re planning to watch it, I suggest going all out and seeing it on the big screen or IMAX. Totally worth it.

Huawei released Nova 2i late last year and it became such a big hit that it was sold out on its first day in the Philippines! I bought one a month after because I waited for the blue one and I've been loving it ever since.

Now Huawei released its successor, the Nova 3i and I feel excited when I saw it for the first time. I read fresh reviews online and it really got my interest. But is it going to be a big hit again?

I had the chance to take a closer look and feel of the Nova 3i before its official Philippine Launch at the Huawei Store (8telcom Mobile Solutions) inside Victoria Plaza Mall. First impressions really last and here are the reasons why this new mid-range smartphone is going to be everyone's favorite.

  • It's sleeker and more premium looking with 2.5D glass on its front and back with glossy metal frame. The 6.3-inch Full HD+ (2340 x 1080) provides a wider view. Plus it has a notch design.
  • It has a micro SD card slot good for 2 sims or with 1 memory card that can support up to 256 GB.
  • With specialized four AI Cameras solution of 24MP + 2MP on the front and 16MP + 2MP on the back. The cameras at the back are slightly protruded.
  • With AR features for games and taking photos.
  • Scenery recognition can adjust the surroundings to match your true beauty in selfies.
  • Backgrounds - it adds different cute designs and animations to your selfies.
  • 3D QMojis are their own version of facial animation and expressions that can add more fun to your messaging, texts, and videos.
  • With Kirin 710 Processor that delivers smooth responsiveness, AI photo features, and immersive gaming experience.
  • With 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage! That's doubled storage compared to Nova 2i.
  • It runs in the latest Android 8.1 Oreo.
  • With fingerprint sensor and face unlock feature,

  • Battery life is the same with Nova 2i of 3,340mAh. It lasts the whole day without charging.
  • It is available in black, pearl white, and my favorite the Iris Purple.

Though it is a fingerprint magnet, I still love how it looks and it performs really well. Grab one now at the nearest 8telcom Mobile Solutions store in Davao. Get freebies when you buy today!

Everyone deserves some relaxation after a busy day at work. It doesn't mean you need to go out of the city or go to the beach. A sip of coffee and a comfortable couch is all you need. Plus some friends to chit chat with. I found a perfect place that serves good food and has a relaxed and comfortable environment. I'm talking about Koffiepauze - a coffee shop we found along Roxas Avenue.

Koffiepauze is a dutch word that simply means "coffee break". The Tinio family had an idea of putting up a one-stop coffee shop that has a flower boutique, a souvenir and stationery stand with complete postal service. However, from those concepts and ideas, only the former was realized. They opened last May 8, 2014 at the Palmetto Condo in Ma-a and transferred late last year at Roxas Avenue.

The managers Ms. Donna Patricia Tinio and Mrs. Melody Liz Espinosa, invited us to their new and bigger home at 100 Roxas Ave. Dormitory. We had the chance to taste some of their dishes and hot and cold drinks.

SALADS

KHANI SALAD P 150 - The plate is so full! Good for 2 people sharing. But for me, I can eat this by myself. LOL
ALL-DAY RICE MEALS

CORDON BLEU P160 - Cheesy and tender
BREADED PORK CHOP P160 - Your all time favorite pork chop with a unique gravy
CARBONARA P155
LASAGNA P155 - Yummy and cheesy, I like it!
HOT AND COLD DRINKS

JO'S KOFFIE P110 (Hot) P115 (Cold) - Their specialty served in a large Koffiepauze mug. For hot coffee lovers, this will complete your day. :)
KIWI SODA P95 - Sparkling and refreshing
GREEN APPLE AND TEA COOLERS P85
ALOHA LATTE KOFFIE BLENDED FRAPPE P135 - Sweet!
CHOCO CUPCAKE NON-KOFFIE FRAPPE P135 - It looks like Aloha Latte and somehow tastes like it too. I can't tell the difference. :)
CAKES AND DESSERTS

FIRST FLOOR

A good place to hang out on the 2nd floor. Wish they have more soft foam or pillows
Leave notes on this wall. It's cute!
They also have 2 small rooms that can accommodate 10-20 people. Good for private meetings or group studies.

My top three favorites are Khani Salad, Chicken Cordon Bleu, and their signature drink Jo's Koffie. So far, I love their food and drinks. Sometimes, the drinks are too sweet so when you order, tell the barista to adjust the sweetness. But the best thing about Koffiepauze is that you'd really feel and enjoy the luxury of your coffee break.
